World of Cyclops

Concept

In this project I want to respond to the dull and sometimes hypocritical reality in a childish and joyful way. Specifically, by projecting our real world to a black and white paper-cut style dimension where everyone is a Cyclops, I juxtapose the two worlds and make a subtle sarcasm to the serious and sometimes boring reality. The contrast from such juxtaposition can be further reinforced by adding more liveliness elements into the Cyclops world. However, the silhouette of the audience should be preserved to maintain the connection between the two dimensions, and the eyes of the Cyclops are key to invoke all the reflections.
I shall use OpenCV and Processing for the project. The paper cut visual style can be achieved with frame differencing and threshold, and drawing of the eyes can be done with face detection. One of the main challenges is the face detection function doesn’t always return consistent result, one’s face is not guaranteed to be detected and the size, location of a detected face change from frame to frame. I think such inconsistency has a large influence on the audiences’ experience and should be addressed. Also, to enable any interaction between the Cyclops-who are mainly identified by their eyes-the face detection result in the past should be remembered in some sense
