Project 1 Concept: Current Events video game

Working title:  TimeLine

Team:  Henry Johnson, Yaqi Ge, Justin McKeown

Description:

The concept here is a clashing of video games and current events.  Every enemy you come across is some kind of real-world event (small, medium, large, etc.), such that the bigger the event, the tougher the enemy.  Our goal with this game is to bring attention to the fact that the more you get engaged with the “video game” aspect, the less you pay attention to the smaller real-world events.  In other words, the game attempts to make you oblivious as to what is going on in the real world–which is definitely an interesting point to bring up.

The game will operate much like Super Mario Bros such that it will be a sidescroller with enemies to jump on/attack and pitfalls to avoid.  (As homage to this, we found .pngs of the clouds used in that game to use in this one as well).  Every time you defeat an enemy, an event (during the year shown on screen) will appear below the game itself.  Whether or not you pay attention to this is your call!  :)

Beware!  Really large events are going to be quite the challenge! (i.e., almost impossible to ignore in the real world regardless of how much gaming one does).
